Frequency-Dependent Droplet Size Control
High-power ultrasonic systems operating at 20 kHz and 70 kHz were engineered to enable efficient atomization of water — and potentially molten metals — into narrowly distributed droplets. Experimental results demonstrate a dominant 35 µm droplet size at 20 kHz (50% in 35–55 µm range) and approximately 10 µm droplets at 70 kHz (50% in 10–25 µm range), closely aligning with analytical predictions.
Additive Manufacturing Applications
This frequency-dependent control of droplet size affirms the promise of ultrasonic atomization for producing metal powders with tailored size distributions, optimized for additive manufacturing applications.
