Droplets Bounce on Impact With Graphene-Coated Surface

Graphene as a single-atom-layered super-material has limitless potential. When combined with Teflon as a Teflon-coated graphene foam, it becomes superhydrophobic. High-speed imaging shows droplets making impact with this coated surface and bouncing off intact.

Graphene applied as a single layer onto glass or plastic adds a noticeable but subtle grey shading, which remains acceptable as an overlay in many applications. This new type of superhydrophobic coating is promising for self-cleaning and anti-fouling surfaces. Graphene's additional properties — including exceptional tensile strength and electrical conductivity — further broaden its appeal as a multifunctional coating material.
